    Jim Stewart

Founder & CEO, Boston IT Services

Jim Stewart is a Boston College CSOM graduate and IT consultant who runs Boston IT Services (BITS), a Boston-based IT company serving businesses of all sizes. His curiosity about technology started in childhood, tinkering with early personal computers and connectivity. That curiosity led to an internship at KPMG, followed by IT engineering support roles at EMC and Manulife Financial, before Jim joined Viant Corporation, a Boston-headquartered internet consultancy that grew rapidly during the dot-com era. Over five years at Viant, Jim designed, implemented, and supported IT office infrastructure, web development, and early cloud and internet hosting services for the firm's client engagements.

Jim founded BITS as an independent IT consultant. He has since worked as a technical consultant on IT projects for large institutions including Citizens Financial Group, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and Fidelity Investments, and has also served as an independent security consultant to the Massachusetts Division of Banks. Jim was an early Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), earning the credential in 2008, when there were only about 38,000 CISSPs worldwide. He also consulted for Optaros in IT, a fast-growing, open-source-focused Boston technology firm.

Today, BITS partners with a wide range of clients — from small businesses to large enterprises — across Boston and beyond, including lasting international relationships built over the years. The firm's client base spans industries from high-tech and manufacturing to local biotech, tech/SaaS startups, and financial services. The team includes 20 Boston-based consultants and two in San Francisco, along with partnerships in the EU, serving clients on both coasts and internationally.

Outside of work, Jim stays active as a swimmer, gym-goer, and yogi — and from time to time, he can be found making his way down a mountain on skis. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and dogs.
